Nauvoo Day 2: Sights to see

Through the week, we enjoyed visiting and touring the historical sites around downtown. Our touring included, but was not limited to...

The brickyard: The brickyard tour was in this newly built, comfortably air-conditioned room! Our entire family reunion (36 total) was able to fit into one room.  Probably not the quietest or most attentive tour group, but very energetic!

The Wagon Tour: in this case, we could NOT all fit in one tour.  We split up and our group went on the downtown tour.  I love seeing the cousins all enjoying each other! Most everyone enjoyed the relaxing trot around town, but the 3-year-olds did get a little restless by the end of the tour...

Pioneer Pastimes: by far, the kids' favorite place to hang!
Xochitl taking care of her baby, complete with running commentary: "and here is some noodles for your dinner..." so busy running the household that she could not pause and smile for the camera!

Larry riding the horse!

Larry and Xochitl riding the sheep??

Larry, Adele, and Dawna delving into the dress-ups!

And Dawna really delving into character! Not sure if she is a Pioneer or Mary with her little lamb...

Amanda, Jon, and Luke racing to the top!
The Blacksmith: This site with its famous prairie diamonds has been around for decades! Larry loved the horse shoe. Dawna loved the "volcano."  Xochitl loved that we were the only family on the tour so she could slide all over the benches...

The Family Living Center: POP QUIZ!  Thanks to my darling daughter's big mouth, the senior missionary at the bread and candle station was informed that I used to be the missionary giving tours there.  So, she called me up, stepped aside, and said, "Ok, give us the tour."  Oh boy... I probably got about 75% of it... the missionary was impressed, I was sweatin' hard trying to remember... but I made it though and then hid among the purple shirts for the rest of the time, just in case Dawna got any other ideas... We also loved making rope and tasting the bread there. Yum!
bread!
Dinner Time!

Emma, Dawna, et al helping at one of the rope...

And everyone else joins in the fun! You invite one Severson, you get them all!
And no family reunion week would be complete without pouty tired, yet still cute, kids...
 Stay Tuned for Day 3...
